When searching for and purchasing a crane truck, you should always consider the application for the work. Truck mounted cranes are used for electrical line work, construction, tree trimming and removal, and delivering materials among other applications. It comes down to how much weight you want to lift and how high in the air it needs to lift. In general a boom truck is hydraulic crane that’s mounted onto a commercial truck chassis. The terminology includes crawler cranes, knuckle boom cranes, etc. and refer to the ability of the crane to lift and place loads or material.

Some cranes can attain working heights of 200 feet with the help of the jib arm which is a hydraulic extension of the boom. Lifting capacities can exceed 80 tons on some models. Terrain is also a consideration for the type of crane machine and how it will be used. Types of crane equipment include tower cranes, rough terrain and all-terrain cranes, crawler cranes and boom trucks.

Knuckle boom cranes, also known as articulating cranes, are designed to lift loads and handle the material through various attachments. Knuckle boom trucks are also preferred for moving loads from point to point whereas boom crane trucks are preferred for vertical lifting and over obstacles. The knuckle boom trucks are considered to be more versatile due to the variety of sizes and weight classes available.

We have several experienced and reputable manufacturers with the knowledge in the boom crane industry that can help you determine what crane will fit your business’s need.
